SALUDA ORAL HISTORY PROJECT

The city of Saluda, NC has embarked on a wide-ranging multimedia oral history project, and they have chosen Eljapa as their media partner. Filming/interviewing began in November 2010, and the first in a planned series of DVDs has just been released. 

In addition to interviews, the project also makes use of vintage photographs, archival audio recordings,  and music performed by Saluda residents. Called Home, Hearth, and History: Stories of Old Saluda, the DVD is divided into three segments: History, Hearth (stories of daily life), and Home (stories of memorable people). Here is the opening sequence:

Over 150 people attended Home, Hearth, and History‘s premiere at the Saluda Mountain Jamboree on July 2, and nearly half of those purchased a copy of the DVD after the viewing. Copies are available now at many downtown  retailers and from the City of Saluda.
